BECOME A HEDGEHOG CARER

 

Accommodation

garage, shed or spare room with natural light and an electricity supply.

It must be temperature controlled - not going below 7 degrees or above 26 degrees.

 

Basic equipment

Plug in animal safe heat pad with metal reinforced cable (Challoner style)

4 ft rabbit hutch, or guinea pig plastic top and bottom cage with metal grid top opening

Microscope - preferred

Clean jam jar lids, shallow hamster bowls or shallow ramekin dishes

Safe 4 disinfectant (green - apple)

Supply of clean, non-scented newspapers

Chicken in jelly dog food

Chicken cat biscuits / kitten biscuits

Dried mealworms

Kitchen towels

Black bin bags

Marigold style gloves

Unfragranced towels

 

Angled toe nail scissors

Pointed tweezers

Head torch - bright

Magnifying glasses

Toenail clippers

 

Linked vet for assessment of conditions and problems and medication

Commonly used medication for hedgehogs - Synulox,

 

Drivers to collect and deliver hedgehogs - recommended

Holiday cover carer or sickness cover carer
